Underrepresented in Tech

Where has this year gone? Only one month left, and we’re heavy into the holidays already. Whatever you celebrate, and however you celebrate, we wish you wonderful times with family and friends.

As usual, we have accumulated some things we think you will like. Let’s get right into the content. 💪

✨ Here’s one of our favorite things from the past month.✨

We have published every episode of our first ever events series! The Inclusive Webinar Series is entirely focused on expanding our vision for the UIT brand: bringing a voice to those who are often not heard in tech. Check out the webinar series and let us know what you’ve learned! We would love to hear from you.

Listen to: How Allies Create Mental Labor for Underrepresented People

In this episode, Allie and Michelle discuss the challenge of allies asking underrepresented people to validate, police, advise, or assist their allyship. This mental labor can add more of a burden than that allyship removes.

We include recommendations for allies and how to seek information without overwhelming your underrepresented friends and acquaintances.

🔥 Too many podcasts about underrepresentedness? There’s no such thing. 🔥

Have you ever heard of a new podcast or blog about underrepresentedness (in tech or otherwise) and then heard someone say something along the lines of “another one??? how many do we need?”

Well, until we achieve representation and inclusion, it’s my opinion that there is always room for more.

Every podcast or blog doesn’t reach (or “speak to”) every person. The Underrepresented In Tech podcast, (which we think is brilliant), isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. So maybe there are others that reach the folks that we don’t.

And still others speak to specific groups (like women, black people, LGBTQIA+, and other underrepresented groups). These resources are a rich body of information for audiences and don’t preclude the work that any of the rest of us are doing.

The important thing is to create and consume content that reaches out to people to help them learn and grow.

And in the process we help each other, too.
